House Bill 444, introduced by Rep. Blake Oshiro, stalled in Senate Committee last month with a vote of 3-3. Senators are considering forcing the bill out of committee for a full floor vote. The Honolulu Star Bulletin has an
article on the rally and candlelight vigil held by civil unions supporters Saturday night. The rally is featured in this weeks "The Ledge" episode, which is created by staff of Rep. Hermina Morita's office.

The State of Hawaii has already said "NO" once to same-sex marriage. I Know that this bill should not be passed. Most of Hawaii has spoken against it and We are being neglected!!! I do not Hate homosexuals but hate the sin. How can people reproduce if they don't have the opposite sex's sperm or the ova?... if in the beginning there was Adam and Steve do you think we would exist? or if the monkey's were both males. would have we have existed?... Marriage is something sacred for a Man and Women!!! not women and women or man and man... if Man and women were never put together we would have never existed. So say "NO" to civil union HB 444 and stick with the tradition.
I say YES to civil union. How can people say that..Marriage is something sacred..when there is so much domestic violence between a man and a women. How sacred is hitting a women or beating a child. Also there are many children out ther that need LOVING homes. Yet a women who has 6 kids and living on welfare, your hard earned money, is ok. We are not asking to live with you nor pay our bills, we are asking to live our lives.
We are ALL BORN in God's image, so how can any one person be thought to be living a sinful life? Jesus taught us to love unconditionally. Why are opponents to civil unions loving with conditions? Their intolerant and disrespectful ways is heart breaking. I wonder what these opponents would say and do if they were told that they could no longer practice their religion? And what happened to the 1st Amendment of the U.S. Constitution? What happened to separation of church and state? And why can't all Americans pursue without interference, especially from a majority group, their right to life, liberty and happiness? Equality has always prevailed in the past and it will prevail in the future. It is inevitable.
I have left my official response to the rally on my blog. Here is the link, feel free to read it. Instead of holding a candlelight vigil for prejudice, all that tshirt and sticker money could have gone to the Haitian refugees. But then there are many gays in Haiti, so I suppose they are sub human to these people. That we would allow our secular system to be overridden by religious zealots is a sad day for democracy on our country, our state and our world. Just replace the word civil unions, with the word civil rights.
I urge all of our legislators to not be fooled by this show of misplaced and misquided emotions. You legislate for all of the people of this state. Human beings, not sub humans who do not deserve equitable civil rights. Irregardless of the fact that there was a fake "rabbi" there, (yes, check my blog, I investigated this guy he is not condoned by any Synagogue in Honolulu) who was calling for the destruction of the building he was standing under and the entire city and then blew horns, trying to recreate the bible and bring it to life (an act of terrorism if I ever saw one!), you legislators have a civil and secular responsibility to weigh issues on merit, not based on religious idealism and zealotism.
