As summer approaches, hinting at the final hours of high school with hotter days that beget sweat beads above the brow, the 2008 Wai`anae High School graduates are yearning for their Project Graduation night when they will be chauffeured in comfortable air-conditioned buses to their party destination.
Unfortunately, this may not happen. The Project Graduation committee of Wai`anae High School is short $5,000, an amount that would allow each student interested in celebrating the end of high school to be able to attend and celebrate their success in the comfort of a "cool" bus.
"We really want the students to feel special and be comfortable as they head out for their special Project Graduation celebration," explained organizer Gail Gomes.
Rep. Maile Shimabukuro is urging Hawaii residents, organizations and businesses to help make this possible for the graduates. Wai'anae High School's graduation is on May 30, 2008.
"If a company is willing to donate so the committee can purchase air conditioned buses and drivers through Roberts Hawaii that would be a great way to support the students of Wai'anae High School," added Rep. Maile Shimabukuro.
Cash and other donations, such as door prizes, are tax deductible. Checks can be mailed to Wai'anae High School Project Graduation, ATTN: Katherine Cadirao, 85-251 Farrington Hwy., Waianae, HI 96792 or call Gail Gomes at 696-7978.
Organizers are also seeking assistance with set up for the graduation ceremony on May 29, as well as help with parking, logistics, and clean up on May 30, graduation night.
Several organizations and individuals have already donated generously to this cause, including Doug's Acoustical and Drywall Interior, Inc.; Karen Young; Wai`anae Coast Rotary Club; and Wai`anae Military Civilian Advisory Council.
