Ten days from now, on January 15th, Hawaii will be switching to digital television. The entire nation makes the transition by February 17, 2009, so we are early. If you are currently subscribing to a cable service, you won't need to do anything.
However, if you use a rooftop antenna or rabbit ears to receive a television signal, you will lose reception on January 15th. There are several options, including buying a new digital TV set and converter box, or signing up with one of the cable or satellite television services.
The legislature is holding an informational briefing tomorrow on the transition to digital.
Committees: Senate Committee on Economic Development and Technology and House Committee on Economic Revitalization, Business & Military Affairs.
When: Tuesday, January 6, 2009 - 11:00 a.m.
Where: State Capitol, Conference Room 414
Presenter: Lyle Ishida, Federal Communications Commission (FCC) - Hawaii DTV Transition Manager.
