News from Rep. Tommy Waters

Both The Advertiser and the Star-Bulletin ran stories this morning on Rep. Waters' decision to not seek re-election this year. Speaker of the House Calvin Say issued this statement of appreciation:

"I want to thank Rep. Waters for the years he served in the Hawaii House of Representatives - years that were productive and distinguished. He was willing to take on tough assignments, which he performed with integrity, character, honesty, and very often with a good sense of humor.

Personally, I will miss him, but he has a young family and a law practice, and I understand his priorities at this time. He cares deeply about Hawaii and about his community, and I know that he will continue to contribute to the public good outside of politics."

Bye, Rep. Waters. You sure did take some hits these past couple of sessions - and somehow still kept your smile. Beautiful kids and the love of a good woman can make the worst in life bearable. I can understand you leaving -- you were always almost too normal, too sweet for this building. Thanks for giving what you did, always with class.

GOOD RIDENCE!...and take REP CALVIN SAY with you. Both corrupt politicians. Kaimuki/Palolo area area (especially the elderly people) are still under the "SAY" spell!

Your stance on stalling tort reform no doubt was popular with some attorneys but a curse for the people of Hawaii. As is abundantly clear in states like Texas, such legislation with resulting lower malpractice premiums has paid big dividends in better care and high risk physician availability.
