Speaker Say was interviewed today by Leland Kim of KHNL on the fact that the Governor has not yet released $8 million appropriated in 2007 to increase reimbursements to physicians who provide care for medicaid patients. The fee reimbursements are critically important in enabling doctors to maintain practices in rural and underserved areas, as well as in treating low-income and uninsured patients. The legislation is SB1672, CD1, which was enacted into law as Act 284 without the Governor's signature.
The Speaker said he hoped that the Governor would release the funds before they lapse on June 30, 2008. At risk is the federal fund match of $9 million for a total of $17 million to help physicians.
