for schools, infrastructure, conservation, prison improvements

The House of Representatives adjourned its 2019 session last week and passed
$337.4 million in Capital Improvement Project (CIP) funding for fiscal years
2020 and 2021 for various projects across Maui County.
Capital
Improvement Projects are renovations, repairs, and major maintenance to
existing facilities, landscape improvements, new construction, land
acquisition, and utility modifications.
CIP
funding highlights for Maui County include:
SCHOOLS
- $2.4 million for Baldwin High School to design and construct a girls' athletic locker room and reroof Building B
- $700,000 for Haiku Elementary School for a covered walkway and reroofing for Building E
- $5.1 million for Iao Intermediate School for cafeteria and building C renovations, additional classrooms, and air conditioning installation
- $6.5 million for Kahului Elementary School for design and construction of parking lot fencing and a new classroom building
- $393,000 for Kalama Intermediate School parking lot renovation, design of a multipurpose room, and fire alarm replacement
- $750,000 for Kaunakakai Elementary School roof replacement and bleacher installation
- $1.817 million for Kekaulike High School for a baseball and softball complex and campus fire alarm replacement
- $7.15 million for Lahainaluna High School for repairs/upgrades/replacement of electrical meters and other electrical system improvements, and repair and resurfacing of the track and field
- $8 million for Maui High School for design and construction of a girls' athletic locker room and bathroom, physical education, and athletic facilities
- $2.81 million for Maui Waena Intermediate School for an air conditioning system, and physical education field aeration
- $300,000 for Molokaʻi High School for design and construction of a baseball field
- $17 million for Pāʻia Elementary School for design and construction of a new classroom building
- $5.37 million for Wailuku Elementary School for building reroofing, campus-wide air conditioning installation, and ADA transition
HOSPITALS
- $12 million for Maui Health System facilities repairs, renovations, and upgrades
CONSERVATION
- $1.5 million for coqui frog eradication
- $300,000 for Kahana Pond State Wildlife Sanctuary perimeter fence replacement
- $1.1 million for Kanaio dryland forest for a resource protection fence and forest protection and restoration
AIRPORTS AND HARBORS
- $38 million for Kahului Airport terminal and facility improvements
- $2.4 million for Hāna Airport improvements
- $3.5 million for Molokaʻi Airport improvements
- $2.4 million for Lanaʻi Airport improvements
- $56.5 million for Kahului Harbor improvements
- $3.5 million for Māʻalaea Small Boat Harbor finger pier replacement
ROADS AND BRIDGES
- $4 million for Haleakalā Highway widening at mile post 0.8
- $4.25 million for Hāna Highway Bridge preservation
- $2.7 million for Hāna Highway improvements, Huelo to Hāna
- $5 million for Honoapiʻilani Highway shoreline erosion mitigation from Ukumehame to Launiupoko
- $110 million for Pāʻia Bypass land acquisition, design, and construction
- $500,000 for Puunene Avenue widening from Kamehameha Avenue to Kuihelani Highway
OTHER PROJECTS
- $4.36 million for Hoapili Hale for parking, sewer, storm drain, fire sprinkler, air conditioning, and security-related improvements
- $8 million for Maui Community Correctional Center renovations, infrastructure work, and new construction
